When you do you're greeted by Sony's XrossMediaBar menu system guiding you through all the uses of this fantastic set - from the Picture Frame mode (which allows you to display pre-installed images or a slide show from an attached USB device), streaming of mp3 music files or jpeg photo images from a DLNA certified server, the built in Freeview tuner or the High Definition inputs, capable of displaying the highest quality, full HD, 1080P resolution. This television really is a joy to use.
3 HDMI inputs make the KDL52W4500 perfect for use with DVD/Blu-ray players and games consoles such as the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360. Its full HD 1080p panel produces superb bigscreen images that, thanks to Bravia Engine 2 processing, are vivid and colourful whilst the Advanced Contrast Enhancer helps this screen achieve an astonishing 50000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, meaning the blacks are deep, dark and realistic. To make sure all this detail doesn't get lost when the action starts, Sony have added Motionflow processing along with 100Hz refresh rates which adds subtle extra detail to the edges of fast moving objects, making them easier to follow - perfect for sports and action films.
The KDL52W4500 also boasts a 10 bit panel. Where most televisions can only show 256 shades of red, green or blue (8 bit) this Sony ups that figure to 1024 for each colour, giving a more naturally rendered, realistic picture. This means it can show x.v.colour pictures from Blu-ray sources in all their splendour. Live Colour Creation improves the colour rendering of all other sources ensuring that, whatever you watch, the 52W4500 makes it look as good as it can. Complete with the ability to show 24 frames per second Blu-ray recordings the 52W4500 will keep the most avid film fan satisfied.
The integrated speakers produce a convincing sound and the TV also features Dolby Virtual Surround for broad and immersing effects. In addition there's an optical output and a stereo line out connection so you can connect a stereo, hifi or home cinema system.
The digital (Freeview) tuner lets you enjoy the latest terrestrial channels and there's a top-up TV slot should you wish to view any subscription programmes.
